We are delighted to confirm that Western Australian author Bernice Barry will be part of our conference program.
Bernice’s book Georgiana Molloy: The mind that shines is a fascinating biography of a remarkable botanist and WA’s first internationally successful female collector.
Georgiana arrived in Augusta, on the south coast of WA, from England in 1830 as a newly married woman expecting her first child. The Swan River Colony where Perth now stands had been established just a year earlier.
Bernice details Georgiana’s extraordinary life of hardship where, despite giving birth to seven children, she managed to find time to collect and ship botanic specimens to Kew Gardens, where they can still be seen today.
